Luna & Dog was also sighted on the Ellen DeGeneres show, the award winning feature film Saving Luna, and will appear in the feature film Unity – the sequal to the award winning feature film Earthlings. I never would have thought when capturing this, what impact this would make. I’ll keep you posted as stuff comes up.

In other news, today the long awaited first superpod arrived to the San Juan Island waters! I am sure it was a grand explosion of fins, pecs, breachings, spyhops, tail lops and much social activity among orcas and spectators!

Please read this heart warming blog post about yesterday’s sightings from San Juan Island. Lots of good stuff here including J1 behaviors

I believe that now, more then ever, we need to embed our minds into what makes us happy. Because should we decide to submit to paranoia, confusion and fear, we will truly manifest a global nightmare. Keep your minds empty and clean, do what you must to remain free. Kiteboarding is a good exercise in strengthening your confidence and pushing you into an evolving realm where your body mind and soul are free. I am starting to recognize this as more than a sport but as an avenue to being happy and that’s sacred.

As David (of FreeStylePlaya) pointed out in the car driving back from Xpuha last night after hearing the headline news of the recent events (swine virus), “we have to keep kiting guys”… He’s totally right!

Orca Boarding is more than a message for saving orcas but is meant to inspire change. Orcas are wild and free and we can learn from them, how to be free ourselves. When we accomplish this, we can help manifest a better world. I’ve learned from years of experience that the dreams, photographs, art, film I have created have manifested as real events in my life. So now I am applying this technique intentionally with the hopes of manifesting a healthier world.

(Aug 22, 2005 with 5 Star Whales and T44 at the Oak Bay gulf course)

From Orca Lab: A couple of days ago, the MacKays were told of a sighting of a dead orca floating near Hope Island (near Port Hardy). The DFO was alerted and with the help of a Coast Guard boat, that was in the vicinity, the whale was secured. DFO was able to identify the 31 year old transient male as T44. A necropsy will be performed in the next day or so. Finding a whale, soon after death, is a very rare occurrence and presents an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge.

Experts to study body of large killer whale that washed ashore in B.C.

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Killer whale experts are taking advantage of a rare opportunity to study the body of a large, male orca.

The carcass washed up this week near Telegraph Cove, on the northeast side of Vancouver Island.

John Ford, with the Department of Fisheries, says it’s a rare event and the first time they’ve been able to study a transient killer whale in decades.

Ford says the dead whale is one he first identified as a calf back in 1976 and called T-44.

A necropsy didn’t determine the cause of death, but Ford says the whales only live about 30 years.

He says they’ll do further studies on what was in the whale’s stomach and contaminant levels in its tissue.

This will be the board I will use to learn to kiteboard, but of course who better to demonstrate it then David, a kiteboarder extraordinaire! This was a gift to me from FreeStylePlaya for my contribution to the project, so as you saw earlier, I drew (to the best of my ability) a design I wanted to carry and there it is! Please see the post earlier about the board and why I chose to broadcast this message! Thank you FreeStylePlaya for everything! Together we can make our dreams a reality.

This is a video I produced in 2003. Luna (a solitary cetacean) died at age 6 when he was struck by a boat propeller in March of 2006. In 2008 several of the southern resident orcas (Luna’s family) disappeared, scientists suggest starvation and pollution are the main causes. Luna’s mother Splash L67 and younger brother Aurora L101 are part of the group that has gone missing. Luna’s dramatic life ended up becoming a foreshadow of his family’s plight. Now, with his mother and brother gone, we are again reminded of the issues that plaque the lives of these magnificent beings. Global pressures are bearing down on all life on this planet…
