Early morning of April 8, 2009 I heard sonar for several hours on the Orca Sound hydrophones which are located in the southern resident feeding habitat in Haro Strait. Although I realize military exercises are common and important, and that military care about marine life (yes I have friends and family involved in military), I [...]

(Aug 22, 2005 with 5 Star Whales and T44 at the Oak Bay gulf course) From Orca Lab: A couple of days ago, the MacKays were told of a sighting of a dead orca floating near Hope Island (near Port Hardy). The DFO was alerted and with the help of a Coast Guard boat, that [...]

The board is done and I am so excited! This will be the board I will use to learn to kiteboard, but of course who better to demonstrate it then David, a kiteboarder extraordinaire! This was a gift to me from FreeStylePlaya for my contribution to the project, so as you saw earlier, I drew [...]

Superpod (JKL pods) visited Victoria yesterday. All 3 pods were together and we are waiting to hear back from the Center for Whale Research to hear of any updates. It’s been 1.5 years since I’ve seen my black and white friends. What a gift.

During the summer of 2007, we went to Johnstone Strait. It was an incredible adventure. We saw a very rare event of several Dalls porpoise bow riding the whale watching vessel for about 40 mins! We encountered northern resident killer whales, humpback whales, and the following day about 1000 pacific white sided dolphins riding along [...]

Ross. Download the pdf here Sundance Channel / Environmental News – Canada sued for failure to protect killer [...]

Here’s a collection of what I think are my best and my favorite images. Images of orcas, whale watching, research and their overall home. I hope to do more with the images rather than them just sitting on flickr…

My friends, David and Jenna. Together we’ve had some very exciting conversations and visions about the future. Together we believe the message spreads consistently across the seas from the Pacific to the Caribbean. In both places our oceans and wild life face the same situations. The plight of the killer whale on the pacific coast [...]

This is a video I produced in 2003. Luna (a solitary cetacean) died at age 6 when he was struck by a boat propeller in March of 2006. In 2008 several of the southern resident orcas (Luna’s family) disappeared, scientists suggest starvation and pollution are the main causes. Luna’s mother Splash L67 and younger brother [...]

My name is Maria Chantelle Tucker (orcagirl.com) and welcome to Orca Nation, a labour of love 10 years in the making. It is my belief that we need to find new ways to raise awareness around the plight of killer whales and life on the planet. Spreading good karma for killer whales is the goal. [...]
