Robson Bight Spill Project

During the summer of 2007, we went to Johnstone Strait. It was an incredible adventure. We saw a very rare event of several Dalls porpoise bow riding the whale watching vessel for about 40 mins! We encountered northern resident killer whales, humpback whales, and the following day about 1000 pacific white sided dolphins riding along side our vessel. The end of our journey was graced with a most sacred experience, witnessing the orcas rub at a special beach.

These are the same orcas that swam through a diesel spill that occurred near the Robson Bight Ecological Reserve just days before this photo and video was taken. For more see “Save Robson Bight“. On the topic, this week I will start a new course entitled “hazardous waste management”.

At UVic our group will be undertaking the Robson Bight spill as a class project. This is not going to be a light task however will be interesting to see what we end up with. Later after we are done, I’ll post my own report of the findings we made. In the mean time please see the video below, just a small clip of several hours that was taken on that journey.
